Huiyee Chiew (周慧儀) is an award-winning journalist and podcast producer. She is currently pursuing her Master's degree at Columbia Journalism School, specializing in investigative reporting.
Born and raised in Malaysia, she later studied and worked in Taipei, Taiwan. With years of professional experience and a diverse cultural background, her work primarily focuses on human rights and social justice issues across Asia. Her stories include undocumented workers in Taiwan, the presidential election in the Philippines, the death penalty in Singapore, feminism in China, and more.
Her work received two Honorable Mentions in the Human Rights Press Awards, with her podcast on Burmese journalists reporting under a coup in 2024 and her work on the stateless Bajau Laut in Malaysia in 2020. She also received an Honorable Mention from the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) in 2023 for her coverage on the 2022 Philippines presidential election. And her collaborative investigation into the mass deaths of the Batek tribe in Malaysia was recognized as a finalist by SOPA in 2021.
She also focuses on the difficulties and challenges faced by journalists around the world. She is a co-author of the Chinese book, "Journalist《新聞記者》," which documents and honors the hard work of journalists worldwide.
